B for Belgium

After having a almost difficult time in deciding where to go next, I ended up in Bruge, Belgium. I spend the last day in Amsterdam visiting Vincent again(did you know he only started painting at the age of 26, which no previous education or experience? There may be hope for me as a artist yet!) and qeuncing my thirst for myself at the Heineken brewery, I hopped on a train and here I am. It is less expensive for me to stay here in a hostel than to hire a room in London, and the scenery is nicer, so I am quite satisfied with my spontanous movement. Bruge is a beautifull town with lovely canals, churches and is very backpacker friendly. Is has a range of cheap hostels and activities.I visited the choclate museum today and had a cups of gluewine(hot wine) at the market sqaure. I am looking forward to spend another few days here. It must be the most romantic city that I have been in and the language spoken West-Flemish(I think) sounds to me more Afrikaans than dutch. They seem to understand words like "baie","lekker" and "ons", in a much wider sense than the dutch. I find it interesting on how the Dialects differ. A word like "het" in afrikaans is similar to "heb" in dutch(have). But the word "het" in dutch means "dit" in afrikaans(it). So if you spoke in afrikaans a simple sentence like "Ek het goed gereis" (I travelled well), it would sound to a dutch listener like "I it well travelled", which sounds stupid. The key is to maybe speak afrikaans as if you are intoxicated. It will sound more dutch, and people will excuse your mistakes, problem solved!
